Invited lecture: Protein Hotspot Prediction Using S-Transform - Thresholding Method Influence.

Prof. Ewaryst Tkacz graduated from the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology (1982). He received his Ph.D. at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the Technical University in Brno, and the D.Sc. (habilitation) at the Institute Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering Polish Academy of Sciences (1987). He was given the title of professor in October 2007. He gained experience in Poland and abroad, among other in Czech Republic, Great Britain, and USA. The main areas of his research interests and lectures is bionics, digital processing of biosignals, computer-assisted medical diagnostics, artificial organs, biotechnology, bioinformatics. Since 1999, he has lectured on doctoral studies in the field of bionics, artificial organs, genetic engineering and tissue. He also teaches laboratory X-ray, numerical methods, probability and statistics, computer programming, and bioinformatics.
He is a professor at the Silesian University of Technology and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Sciences in Gliwice.
He is a member of many scientific organizations in Poland and abroad: the IEEE (Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineering); ESAO (European Society of Artificial Organs) Polish Cardiac Society (PTK); ECS (European Cardiac Society); EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society); Polish Society for Biomedical Engineering; Electronics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Department of Silesia); Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Electrotechnics.
Professor Ewaryst Tkacz is the organizer of numerous international congresses and symposia. He is the author of over 120 scientific publications and winner of many awards and prizes.

Invited speech: 20 years MIT milestones and major achievements.

Prof. Jan Piecha received Ph.D. from the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Silesian University of Technology, Poland in 1972 and later he received D.Sc. (habilitation) from University of Science and Technology (AGH), Poland in 1980. Since 1989 he is a full professor. His main areas of professional interests are: Computer Science, informatics in medicine, digital control systems and telematics. Prof. J. Piecha was a President of many international conferences, among many other conferences he was a President of Program Committees of Medical Informatics & Technology (1996 - 2005), President of Distant Learning Workshops (2001 - 2006) and a President of Organizing and Program Committees of Telematics & Road Traffic Safety (2002 - 2005).
Functions: full professor at University of Silesia – Institute of Informatics, full professor at Silesian Technical University of Technology, Faculty of Transport, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Silesia, vice Director of the Institute of technological Problems, Head of chairs at Silesian University of Technology and University of Silesia. Director of Distance Learning Centre at the University of Silesia.
Research promotions: supervisor of 14 PhDs, Important references of: full professorship, professor title, DSc (habilitation processes), research habilitation monographs, PhDs, and above 300 research papers, 20 books and handbooks.
Research grants: number of research grants founded by Polish Ministry of Science and European funds as well as grands for new technologies transfer into industry (ex. Digital cameras image processing for traffic road control).
Works abroad: in The Netherlands and Germany, with several projects implementation (ex. microcontrollers applications and recorders for foot diseases analysis).
Visiting fellowship: in Eindhoven University of Technology, Cambridge Computer Laboratories, DAAD fellow in Hamburger Ausbildung Partnershaft and Technische Universitaet Duisburg, Swedish Academy of Science and Linköpping University of Technology, Erasmus / Socrates number of visits in Savonia University of Applied Science – Finland, Technische Universitaet Gratz, ESIGETEL Fontainbleau, Lile Techical University – France.
Membership: member of research bodies and committees as: Commission of Electronics of Polish Academy of Science Silesian chapter, member of German society “Fehlertoliererende Rechensystemen”, SEFI.
Research boards: Advisory Board and Chairman of International Conferences and Workshops, member of many research bodies. Editor in-chief of several int. Journals and Monographs, member of publishing advisory boards for periodical issues and monographs.
Industrial experience: by 19 years part time employment in various development units; in Poland and abroad (ex. Paromed Medizintechnic GmbH - Germany).
Published papers: 250 research papers – majority in English, 50 technical papers, 80 development reports, many expertise and references. He got many awards and prizes.
